Las Medulous, Spain

While attending a show of my art in Leon, Spain, I was told about the famous landmark called Las Médulas, about an hour’s drive northwest of Leon.  It is a UNESCO site featuring gold mines from the era of the Roman empire.  What makes it so unusual is that the hydraulic mining activities from thousands of years ago changed the color of the landscape.  The orange colors are adjacent to the purple sky and create a visual site that it very unique.  It was a great way to cap a happy moment in my life. The aqueducts are preserved.
